Play Baseball Like A Local And Meet Cesar Geronimo.
The national sport and passion of the Dominican Republic is baseball or “Beisbol” as the Dominicans call it. Today more than one in six players in the American Major League is from Latin America, the majority of them coming from the Dominican Republic. We at the Golden Dolphin Estate are just as passionate about America’s pastime. We have two teams, The Dolphins and The Sharks. The two teams are made up of local ballplayers that one day hope to play in the American big leagues. As part of your experience you are invited to play with, coach, or manage one of the two teams. Or, if you have your own team, we have more than enough room to house a whole baseball team in our luxury accommodations.
Meet the baseball legend himself, Cesar Geronimo.
As a Dominican Republic native, is a local hero when it comes to baseball. He started his career in the minor leagues with the Yankees in 1967 then was drafted out in 1968 in the Rule 5 Draft by the Houston Astros at the age of 21, then went to the Cincinnati Reds after the 1971 season.
With combined speed and great range with a powerful arm, Geronimo was an outstanding all-around defensive center fielder, winning four consecutive Gold Glove Awards from 1974 to 1977 and being a part of the Reds teams that won five divisional championships, three National League pennants and the 1975-76 World Series Champion. In his 15 Major League seasons, Gerónimo batted .258, with 51 home runs and 392 RBI, 460 runs scored, 977 hits, 161 doubles, 50 triples and 82 stolen bases.
After the final season of his career in 1983 with the Kansas City Royals, he worked for Hiroshima Carp as a coach in a Dominican baseball academy and has been on the board of trustees for the Dominican Republic Sports & Education Academy. In July of 2008, he had the honor of being inducted into the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame.
Not all of our guests have had a game played here, but those that have, have overwhelmingly said it made for one of the most memorable vacation moments of their lives not just this trip. What makes the experience so unique is you can be player, manager, or coach… or all three. Baseball legend Cesar Geronimo will work with you one on one to help your baseball dreams come true. Just remember if you don’t want to be staring down an 85 mile an hour fast ball, yell out “Lento por favor” (slow please). If this sounds as exciting to you as it is to us, just let the Concierge know and he will make all of the arrangements.
