Explore What The Dominican Republic Has To Offer.
The Dominican Republic’s northern coast is lined with the island’s most beautiful beaches. The white sand beaches stretch on for miles, with no megaresorts breaking up the view — just miles of pristine sandy paradise. Conde Nast magazine labeled Playa Grande Beach one of the top ten most beautiful beaches in the world, and it’s located just minutes from the estate along with many other local beaches. Explore them all. And don’t forget to escape to our estate’s private beach for a secluded picnic, beachside barbecue or just to relax with a cold cerveza, a fresh towel and a good book on the shores of these gin-clear waters.
Rio San Juan, a small village just down the hill from the estate is home to some of the best fishing in the area. Book a charter to fish aboard one of the estate’s two custom fishing boats. Our English-speaking crews use all of the top tackle you’ll need to reel in the catch of the day. Our crew regularly targets a range of game fish, including tuna, wahoo and dorado (mahimahi). The Golden Dolphin’s fishing boats have been featured in Marlin Magazine [hyper link to article] and are the best-equipped fishing vessels in Rio San Juan.
The Golden Dolphin Estate is a proud member of the Playa Grande Golf Course, located right on the ocean just minutes from the estate. Designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr., this course has been labeled the “Pebble Beach of the Caribbean,” with 10 holes played directly on the ocean. Hit the links and enjoy the dramatic views, picturesque greens and cliff-side fairways that make this course one of the premiere golf destinations in the Dominican Republic.
CLIFF JUMPING AND CAVE DIVING
Just 10 minutes up the road for the Golden Dolphin Estate sits the crystal blue waters of a natural “cenote” or sinkhole. The area, known as Lake DuDu and the Blue Lagoon is a natural preserve, with a snack bar and restaurant, but the true attraction is the dramatic cliff line and beautiful waters. The cement stairs make it easy to transverse to the water, or you can simply jump off the cliff, or take a ride on one of the rope swings. Cave diving is a popular activity here as well, as a natural tunnel connects the two lakes in the area. Even if you don’t partake in the cliff jumping, you should plan on stopping by to see this beautiful, natural wonder.
There is a horse stable on the Golden Dolphin Estate’s property, where our Paso Fino horses laze away the days. While our horses are a bit old for riding, we will gladly arrange a horseback riding tour for you and your guests. You can ride on the beach or through the picturesque countryside. Using the local horses is very popular for weddings hosted at the Golden Dolphin. There are few sights as beautiful as a bride arriving at the ceremony riding a white mare.
Every year, thousands of humpback whales migrate past Cabrera on their annual trek past the north coast of the Dominican Republic. The prime viewing months run from the beginning of January through the end of March. This time period coincides with the whales breeding. Frolicsome males put on aerial shows as they compete for the females attention. Some years you can see the whales from the villa balcony, but to best experience these magnificent creatures, you must get up close and personal. We can arrange a whale watching boat tour for you and your guests.
SWIM WITH THE DOLPHINS
Let us arrange a trip for you to Ocean World Adventure Park in Puerto Plata to swim with the dolphins and meet the other marine life.
